Tory Clarke
Dr Tory Clarke is an experienced research scientist and plant biologist. Her research has investigated complex plant processes such as biological nitrogen fixation and photosynthesis, with the goal of improving crop productivity and sustainability to secure our future food security. Tory is an expert in nitrogen allocation within plants, and the diffusion of carbon dioxide through leaf tissues. She obtained her B. Biotechnology (Hon) at the University of Tasmania in 2008 and her PhD in Plant Molecular Biology at the University of Sydney in 2014. She completed a short post-doc at Macquarie University, before joining the Australian National University from 2017 to 2021 where she worked with the ARC Centre of Excellence in Translational Photosynthesis, the International Wheat Yield Partnership, and the Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency (RIPE) Project. In her current position at the University of Tasmania, she leads the BioClay™ Grape research program within the ARC Hub for Sustainable Crop Protection, examining stress and pathogen impacts on crops. Tory is also involved in several projects which are developing rapid phenotyping tools for assessing crop performance in response to stress conditions.
