Brent N Kaiser
Professor Brent N. Kaiser is the Professor of Legume Biology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Sydney. Brent is also the Director of the Sydney Institute of Agriculture, which oversees the University of Sydney's overall agricultural research initiative and its interactions with the greater Australian agricultural community. Brent's personal research focusses on nitrogen transport systems and their interactions with plant nitrogen metabolism and growth in both cereals and symbiotic legumes (rhizobia, mycorrhizal). This research specifically looks at ammonium and nitrate transport pathways operating in plants, including their genetic and molecular control, their functional transport properties and the locations of activity within plant cells and tissues. This research remains predominantly exploratory in identifying new or poorly described processes regulating how inorganic N enters plant cells and is managed at the intercellular level to support plant growth, seed quality and overall nitrogen use efficiencies.
