Stephen D Tyerman
Steve’s research interests lie in the area of plant physiology focussing on membrane transport and especially how water channels (aquaporins) function in plants. His biophysical expertise is harnesed in the development of novel sensor technology for probing plant performance focussing on grapevine responses to stress caused by climate change. Steve earned his PhD from the University of Sydney. He is an Associate Editor for Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research and Senior Editor for Plant Cell and Environment. He is a chief investigator in the ARC Training Centre for Innovative Wine Production and the Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology. Steve’s research and community engagement was recongnised by the award of Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Science in 2004. He is a co-author of The Grapevine that won an OIV award in 2012. He was awarded life membershiop of the Australian Society of Plant Scientists in 2019. Steve maintains an active laboratory funded from external grants at the Waite, University of Adelaide working on various membrane transporters, aquaporins and the physiology of grape berries.
