Laura Elvira Gonzalez
My scientific career has been focused on the study of plant viruses of agricultural significance. I began my journey by researching RNA viruses widely distributed in tomato and other essential crops. During my PhD, conducted at the IVIA (Valencia, Spain), I spearheaded the comprehensive characterization of the Southern tomato virus (STV). This effort involved the development of innovative detection methodologies, extensive genomic analyses, and the elucidation of viral interactions through co-infection studies using High-throughput sequencing analysis.
Following the PhD, I moved to IHSM-CSIC (Malaga, Spain), where I be involved in the study of DNA viruses and their vector, the whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). Subsequently, I pursued a post-doctoral position at IBMP-CNRS (Strasbourg, France), focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying plant tolerance to viral infections. My research yielded promising results, identifying significant genes involved in tolerance and advancing our understanding in plant-virus interactions.
I am privileged to continue my research of this topic thanks to a Post-doctoral Marie Curie Fellowship.
