I have a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Zürich. For my Ph.D. I studied the genomic basis of plant adaptation to pollinators in a sexually deceptive orchid, Ophrys sphegodes. In my first postdoc, I am investigating the genetic basis of drought and heat stress adaptation of the orphan crop Tylosema fassoglense, commonly known as marama. This plant produces seeds of high nutritional value, as high as soybean, and it is naturally adapted to semy-dry to dry areas, with low rainfall and long drought periods. For these reasons, marama could contribute to more sustainable agriculture in light of global climate change, providing new plant varieties as alternatives to the current ones.
