Alistair McCormick International Plant Molecular Biology Conference 2024

Alistair McCormick

Alistair McCormick is a Professor of Plant Engineering Biology at the Institute of Molecular Plant Sciences in the University of Edinburgh. Alistair’s lab works on fundamental and applied aspects of photosynthesis and growth in plants, algae and cyanobacteria. These include exploring novel ways to improve the efficiency of photosynthetic carbon capture with CO2-concentrating mechanisms, and exploiting photosynthesis to generate high value secondary products and support carbon sequestration strategies using engineering biology approaches. Alistair holds an MSc from the University of Stellenbosch and a PhD from the University of KwaZulu Natal, which he gained while at the South African Sugarcane Research Institute in 2008. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge and John Innes Centre before joining Edinburgh in 2013 as a Chancellor’s Fellow.
