Janice de Almeida Engler
Janice de Almeida Engler is a Research Director at the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE) at Sophia Antipolis, France. Her research on the understanding of the susceptible interaction between plants and endoparasitic nematodes focusses on the dissection of the ontogeny of complex feeding sites mainly induced by root-knot nematodes. She has studied for many years the involvement of the cell cycle machinery as well as the cytoskeleton organization in galls and syncytia induced in Arabidopsis thaliana by root-knot and cyst nematodes. More recently her work is focusing on the mechanisms involving wound-induced responses upon nematode attack. Data generated during these functional studies are being translated into biotechnological approaches via a network of international collaborations aiming to control this pathogen worldwide.
