I'm a final year PhD student at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia where I'm investigating the regulation of the biosynthesis of dhurrin, a defense-related specialised metabolite, in the crop Sorghum bicolor and related wild species. I use a combination of molecular studies and bioinformatic analyses to understand what factors are involved in controlling expression of the pathway genes and hence accumulation of dhurrin in plant tissues. I'm especially interested in the links between primary and specialised metabolism and the incredible ways plants make the most of their limited resources.
